Aggrey Dhabangi

Role: Co-investigator - Uganda

Dr. Dhabangi is a lecturer at Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kampala. He obtained both his Medical degree and residency in Clinical Pediatrics and Child Health from Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda. He completed his PhD at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His doctoral research focused on strategies for improving access to Transfusion in sub-Saharan Africa. Recently, he completed a Clinical Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine from McMaster University, Ontario, Canada, and a Post-Doc Fellowship – on a research project on Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn from Makerere University.

Research and expertise:

Dr. Dhabangi’s research interests are in but not limited to pediatric anemia including sickle cell anemia, pediatric malaria, transfusion in resource-poor countries, including transfusion medicine education. He has been involved in various project: including seven randomized clinical trials [Co-investigator on three, namely; the post-discharge malaria chemoprevention study-I at nine hospitals in Kenya and Uganda (NCT02671175), the post-discharge malaria chemoprevention study-II and an R21 NIH-funded project; Transfusion in Malaria (NCT01586923)]; Principal Investigator of two observational studies, namely; Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn in Uganda, and Iron deficiency in Ugandan blood donors; one cohort study, two formative research, two community surveys, several cross-sectional and two case-control studies as well as qualitative studies. He teaches transfusion medicine and blood banking; clinical pediatrics and child health; and community diagnosis, research methods, project proposal development and implementation at Makerere University College of Health Sciences.
