Research and expertise:
Dr Manda-Taylor’s expertise lies in conducting acceptability and feasibility studies, specifically focusing on Malawi’s public health interventions. She brings extensive experience to this field, underpinned by a robust foundation in social science methodologies. Her work covers a wide range of health concerns in Malawi, all geared toward enhancing the overall health of its population. Key to Dr Manda-Taylor’s approach is the active engagement of stakeholders at every level, ensuring the successful translation of health policies into actionable practices. Her methodological strength is using a social science lens, which provides insights into the social and cultural dynamics shaping intervention acceptability and feasibility. This approach allows her to develop evidence-based interventions that are culturally attuned and contextually relevant. Dr Manda-Taylor’s publications demonstrate that individuals targeted by health interventions can make valuable contributions to health policy design and implementation. Her publications in this area argue for putting weight on the agency of these people rather than considering them only as objects within a policy needing optimisation. Her work in Malawi now ensures that policy translation to practice must involve consultations with various stakeholders, including those delivering and receiving health interventions.
